ROTTERDAM STATEMENT (english): Frank Bruggeman shows how he works and lives in the
industrial harbour surroundings of Rotterdam in the way this city actually ‘forces’
him to. Next to his three dimensional work in blue (objects and furniture) he continued
his gardening overhere and was compelled to create his so called mobile garden.
Unexpectedly, due to Rotterdam’s wide (studio) spaces, the botanic activities delivered
profitable derivatives in the shape of large-scale nature projects.

In the meantime Bruggeman exhibited all kinds of installations in which the
culture of botanics are applied, or otherwise combined with items from his
‘Blue collection’. Alltogether they represent a total environment where working,
living and exhibiting become one with references to utopianism and autarkism.

By now the most important starting points of Bruggeman’s output can be described as:
the development of a value system within his work based on equal importance of all
objects and plants and a tendency to insert anarchistic elements in high urban
surroundings as a reminder of rural inventiveness.
